The business meetings and events sector still has time to showcase its talent as the Meetings Industry Association (mia) has extended its miaList nomination deadline by one week. The deadline for entries for the coveted roll of honour has been put back to 7 October so the industry still has time to commend the remarkable commitment and talent of stand-out colleagues, partners, suppliers and clients, many of whom are making a real difference to their organisations during the pandemic.

On the decision to drive forward with this year’s miaList amidst so much ongoing uncertainty in many businesses, Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, said: “As we continue to commit our time and efforts to supporting the sector at this critical time, the need to recognise outstanding commitment and nurture, recognise and celebrate talent in our businesses is also more crucial than ever.

“We are of course acutely aware of the strain on time and resources for many at the moment and have streamlined the process for the miaList accordingly. We urge the sector to make time, even now, to recognise its most outstanding talent and to use the miaList to do so for their individuals and teams going above and beyond.”

Jessica Winskill, events and group sales executive at The Grand, York secured a place on last year’s miaList and encourages others to take time to nominate, noting: “We need to celebrate our colleagues and our successes much more, especially at this very difficult time in the events industry. It made me feel incredibly valued to be put forward and supported by my manager and the senior team throughout the process. If there is also someone in your team who deserves recognition, it is important to acknowledge this.”

Anyone working within, or associated with the business meetings, hospitality or events sector in the UK or Ireland is eligible for the miaList 2020, which is free to enter.

In addition to the 10 individual names and teams who will secure a place, this year’s roll of honour will specifically recognise an inspirational individual who, against all odds, deserves special credit for managing and leading their organisation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nominations must be made by 5pm on Wednesday, 7 October 2020. Full details of the remote and streamlined judging process as well as the virtual ceremony that will take place on 6 November.
