Lindsay Ackers wins ICCA Millennial Competition

Lindsay Ackers
The Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow is delighted to announce that Lindsay Ackers, Public Relations Executive at the SEC has been chosen as the first winner of the ICCA Millennial Competition. The competition which was launched in March of this year at ICCA UK & Ireland in Belfast, was in partnership with Emirates airlines who were offering return flights to the 57th ICCA Congress taking place in Dubai, and registration for which will be provided by the UK & Ireland Chapter.

The inspiration behind the competition was to engage more closely with the industry’s millennials, who, according to industry trends, will make up 75 per cent of the workforce by 2025.

To win the prize, worth more than £1,500, millennials working for UK & Ireland based ICCA members, who had not previously attended the ICCA Congress were asked to submit a 500-word letter to their future self on what they think they will achieve in the next year based on their attendance at the congress. It also required a link to an online two-minute video presentation.

Kathleen Warden, Director of Conference Sales at the SEC said: “We are delighted that Lindsay has become the first recipient of such an innovative prize. “In Lindsay’s first year with us, she has shown a natural flare for the industry. She is a bright and intelligent millennial with a hunger to learn. We know that she will make the most of her time at the ICCA Congress and we are so proud and pleased that she has been awarded this opportunity.”

Speaking about her prize, Lindsay said: “I am so delighted to have been chosen as the winner of ICCA’s Millennial competition. It’s a great initiative and gives us millennials the chance to connect with the industry on a global scale. I am beyond excited to attend the ICCA Congress. A huge thanks to everyone at the SEC who support me every day and who have taken great joy in watching the video too many times!”

Diane Waldron, chair of ICCA’s UK & Ireland Chapter comments: “Congratulations to Lindsay, she put together a fantastic pitch and clearly demonstrated not just her desire to attend the ICCA Congress but also the hopes she has of learning from the experience and developing her career through ICCA. Lindsay fought off tough competition from a host of other professionals to win and I look forward to seeing her in Dubai.”
