Icelandair named airline of the year at Glasgow Airport at SPAA Travel awards 2014

Icelandair has been named airline of the year at Glasgow Airport in the 22nd SPAA Travel Awards 2014 in Scotland. The awards are given by the Scottish Passenger Agents Association for excellence in travel.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Icelandair has served the Scottish market since the 1940’s, and next year the airline will mark its 70th anniversary of its first commercial flight from Scotland (Largs) in1945 with four passengers and four crew members on-board.

“We have developed a strong partnership with Icelandair, and the airline has performed extremely well, successfully doubling their capacity over the last three years. In what was a huge year for Glasgow, Icelandair also really stepped up to the mark and added extra capacity for the Ryder Cup.

“We are looking forward to working with Icelandair to continue to grow its presence here at Glasgow over the coming years.”

Andrés Jónsson, General Manager of Icelandair in UK said “We were delighted to win this award for the very first time in the awards 22 year history. We’re hoping it will be the first of many more, especially with increased investments in our network with added frequencies to our existing 13 routes into America and Canada and new destination Portland launching in May 2015. ”

Icelandair have regular flights from Glasgow Airport via Reykjavik to 14 cities in the USA and Canada. Passengers can opt for an extended stopover of up to a week in Iceland on their journey for no extra cost to their flight.
