Independent Yorkshire accommodation, Wilsons of Haworth, has taken home the national title for Best Hotel in the United Kingdom, after winning the HotelsCombined Recognition of Excellence Awards 2017.
Wilsons of Haworth, located in the Yorkshire village the Bronte sisters called home in the nineteenth century, beat more than 46,000 other UK properties on HotelsCombined, the world’s leading hotel price comparison platform, for outstanding customer satisfaction.
The Recognition of Excellence Awards is an annual award announced in the first quarter of every year, with 2017 its inaugural year.
Offering five guest bedrooms and located within sight of The Bronte Parsonage and the cobbled Haworth Main Street, Wilsons is a boutique bed and breakfast property and beats strong competition from across the UK, including guesthouses, apartments and hotels.
Paulina Krolikowska, the Recognition Manager for HotelsCombined UK said: “The Recognition of Excellence awards celebrate the very best accommodation for delivering exemplary customer service. We are proud to name Wilsons of Haworth as the top place to stay in the UK as they most consistently scored 10 out of 10 points, compared to the shortlist average of 9.4.”
She added: “While Haworth is world-famous for its literary links and preserved steam railway, it’s surprising to see it take out larger towns and cities that offer better known properties. While only independent hotels were eligible for the awards, the best properties in terms of consistent and verifiable customer service seem to be found in villages and towns across the UK, rather than concentrated only in major cities.”
The Recognition of Excellence awards are chosen based on a unique methodology, making them the first hotelier award of their kind in the UK. Winners are chosen following detailed analyses by a team of data experts of several customer feedback points including quality and consistency of guest reviews, customer ratings, the absence of recurring or unresolved issues, blogs, forums and social media posts.
Krolikowska said: “The awards allow winning properties to stand out from their competitors, especially in tourist areas with lots of accommodation options. Customer service is an excellent measure of success in the hotel industry, and the awards also provide a reliable benchmark for prospective customers to use when booking accommodation. Our Recognition of Excellence is an endorsement of consistent quality that enables UK travellers to book with confidence.”
