The five-star Hotel Camiral awarded ‘Best Hotel Interior Spain’ for the design, created by the Lázaro Rosa-Violán Studio
The five-star Hotel Camiral, member of The Leading Hotels of The World, near Girona, has been commended at the prestigious European Property Awards for its Interior Design, created by the Lázaro Rosa-Violán Studio. Announced at the official ceremony held at the Royal Lancaster, London, Hotel Camiral achieved success in the category ‘Best Hotel Interior Spain’, securing coveted ‘Five-Star’ status.

In their 25th year, the European Property Awards are considered the largest, most prestigious, and widely recognised programme throughout the region, judged by an independent panel of 80 industry experts. The objective of the awards is to recognise excellence in the hotel and property industry worldwide. Hotel Camiral and Lázaro Rosa-Violán competed against the best interior design projects across Europe to achieve their success. Judging was focused on design, quality, service, innovation, originality, and commitment to sustainability.

Featuring 145 rooms and suites set in the picturesque grounds of PGA Catalunya Resort; Hotel Camiral is on the doorstep of the historic town of Girona and under an hour from the vibrant city of Barcelona. Open since May 2016, Hotel Camiral was completed as part of a 33 million Euro investment - with Rosa-Violán at the design helm. The opening was just one aspect of PGA Catalunya Resort’s overall Master Plan, including a further 22 million Euro investment announced in 2018, with the objective of continually evolving as a world-leading resort and providing five-star services and facilities to guests and owners.

A chic haven, Hotel Camiral features striking interiors combining luxury, comfort, elegance and sleek design as brought to life by Catalonia’s celebrated interior design guru Lázaro Rosa-Violán. Rosa-Violán is renowned as a master of light and space and the overall look he has created is fresh and modern, capitalising on the natural views afforded by the destination – with rolling green contours and the striking Pyrenees as a backdrop. Painter by 8 years old, architect by 20, designer inherently, Rosa-Violán opened his studio in Barcelona in 2002. Here he forged a new style, bridging a background of painting into the new realm of design.

His strengths are found in his use of structure, shape and taking on the challenges of the space while remaining sympathetic to the regional flavour of the place. With beautifully designed, richly textured living spaces, Rosa- Violán has anchored the hotel firmly to a sense of space - suites are filled with details paying homage to the surrounding region: oak flooring, hand-painted Spanish tiles, and gilded mirrors add character to the earth-toned design scheme. Rooms and suites, including the recently launched design-led Duplex Suites, offer expansive views of the beautifully landscaped gardens, golf course and the surrounding mountains, expertly connecting the outdoors with the interior – a key theme echoed throughout PGA Catalunya Resort.

David Plana, CEO at PGA Catalunya Resort commented: ‘We are thrilled to receive this prestigious accolade. Since inception, PGA Catalunya Resort has evolved from a luxury villa development surrounded by two championship golf courses, to a world-leading and next generation luxury resort offering an array of facilities and sports amenities. When it came to the redesign of Hotel Camiral, there was no other team for the job than the Lázaro Rosa-Violán Studio. Rosa-Violán, a prolifically talented interior designer, has a unique ability to turn environments into stylish, yet supremely comfortable spaces you want to spend quality time in.’

Lázaro Rosa-Violán commented: ‘It is a delight to accept this award as recognition of our project at Hotel Camiral. My main goal when undertaking the hotel design was to find its character, and give each space its own unique personality. To do that we created different ambiences that are always visually connected to each other, so that when you’re in one place you find yourself contemplating what might happen there and what goes beyond it. We connect the interior with the exterior by invading the lobbies and rooms with light and nature. It invites you to explore, have fun, relax, both inside and out.’
