Generator London wins prestigious Gold Key Award

Generator London property
Generator London was named winner of a Gold Key Award in the Best Hotel Budget/Focused Service category, in a ceremony that took place earlier this week in New York. Generator Paris nice was the runner up in the same category.
DesignAgency see their excellent design work recognised with this award. Their impressive vision for the refurbishment of the original Generator, bring together London’s industrial past with the modern energy the city has today. Striking furniture by Moooi, Moroso and Tom Dixon create a relaxing and social environment for guests.

London’s spirit and the local history of Camden can be seen through the use of reclaimed timbers, exposed brick and hot-rolled black steel. Art installations and bespoke graphics have been executed by Shoreditch based art collective Acrylicize in collaboration with DesignAgency. Good Wives and Warriors have created a customised Generator piano in the café; street artist Newso designed and sprayed the shutters found in the breakfast hall, and talented London based Jenni Sparks is the artist behind the hand drawn map of London that decorates the travel shop.

The chill-out areas offer an abundance of tiered lounge seating; free movies are screened daily in the cinema room with a state of the art HD projector and surround sound while game tables provide a relaxed social experience. The café is the place to lounge in comfortable leather armchairs and enjoy barista style Italian coffee and artisan sandwiches. The bar, that hosts an eclectic programme of daily events for in house guests, is home to a replica Routemaster London bus and features CASTOR lights made of recycled fire extinguishers.

The coveted Golden Key Awards recognise the best in boutique design across the world and this year celebrated its 35th edition. The panel of judges for 2015 included representatives of industry titans such as Starwood, Host and Virgin hotels.
