The Chief Executive of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), Marshall Dallas, won the Public Sector Director of the Year Award at the IoD Scotland Director of the Year Awards at Crowne Plaza Glasgow.  The Scottish award winners now progress to the UK Director of the Year Awards in London in October.

In IoD Scotland’s own words: “The Awards highlight the diversity of the business landscape in Scotland, with categories for SMEs to large businesses; charities to the public sector.  They honour those individuals whose creativity, leadership or innovative business practices have led to success for their organisation and the communities they serve.”

Marshall Dallas, Chief Executive of the EICC, said: “While it’s a great honour to be voted director of the year by industry peers across the commercial and public sectors, for me the award is for everyone in our team at the EICC and I continue to be inspired by their daily commitment to achieving levels of excellence across the business.”

The EICC reported a record year in 2017 with delegate numbers up against the previous year - 94,000 delegates attended around 200 events at the venue - while operating profits rose to £1.2 million and economic impact for the city was up at approximately £55 million.

The EICC benefited from more UK and international Associations and conferences choosing Edinburgh and highlights included Barack Obama making his first keynote speech outside the US when the former US President addressed over a thousand business and political leaders at the venue last May.

Sustainability remains high on the agenda at the EICC and in November the venue was chosen as one of eleven organisations across the world to receive a SEAL Business Sustainability Award, joining Bridgestone, Office Depot and Arm as one of the inaugural award winners.

The EICC launched a new vision statement in 2017, “to create an environment which inspires ideas that change the world.”
