Presented in recognition of her above and beyond contribution to the industry, Fay was named recipient of the accolade in front of a packed awards ceremony. The award was given for Fay’s conception, creation and un-relenting commitment to Fast Forward 15; the female mentoring programme which champions female talent through building confidence, empowerment and up-skilling.
More than 1,200 industry guests attended the event which highlights the best of the best in the European meetings and events market. This is the second time Fay has been voted as the Personality of the Year, a first in the 30 year history of the distinguished awards.
Martin Lewis, managing editor of M&IT commented, “Fay launched a scheme that is now in its fourth year and helps develop fifteen aspiring female leaders each year from across the hospitality industry. Fast Forward 15 is now seen as the definitive standard for any mentoring programme.
“Fay has also been a longstanding advocate for female parity in the workplace and has been instrumental in raising awareness and tackling the gender pay gap in the events sector. At a time when the world’s focus is on equality and protection for women in the workplace, this is a timely and highly relevant award”.
Fay Sharpe, Vice President BCD Meetings & Events EMEA said, “I’m both stunned and delighted that Fast Forward 15 was a deciding factor in the award. I’m passionate about helping female talent in our sector and to be recognised by Martin and my peers is humbling. Anyone that’s been involved with Fast Forward 15 knows the benefits and it goes without saying that much of the success is down to the mentors who give their time for free. 2018’s applications are about to close and this award once again raises the bar of the programme for the whole of the industry.”
The closing date for applications to Fast Forward 15 is 9th March 2018 with entries shortlisted between 10th - 13th March 2018. Potential mentees are encouraged to bring their applications to life with digital platforms such as short film CV’s and infographics.
