TAP Air Portugal flies to San Francisco starting from June 2019

TAP is launching a new route between Lisbon and San Francisco commencing 10 June 2019 with reservations starting today. This route will operate five days a week (with the exception of Wednesdays and Fridays) with the flight departing from Lisbon at 10:00 am and arriving in San Francisco at 14:40 pm, local time. On the return, the flight will depart San Francisco at 16.10 and arrive in Lisbon at 11.25am, the following day.

San Francisco will be the TAP´s eighth destination in North America and the third new destination for TAP in the United States next year. Chicago and Washington are also available for sale, with operation starting on 1 June and 16 June respectively. The new San Francisco route and TAP’s first entry point into the US West Coast reinforces the company’s interest and commitment to offering passengers a variety of options to the US.

"TAP is following its expansion plan in the United States. We know that there is still a long way to go, but we are even closer to making this market one of the most relevant to TAP, along with Brazil," commented Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of TAP.

"We are proud that TAP Air Portugal has selected SFO for its growth plans on the United States West Coast," said San Francisco International Airport Director Ivar C. Satero.  "We share TAP's passion for making air travel an enjoyable experience, and travelers in the San Francisco Bay Area can look forward to an easy and economical new way to travel to Portugal and beyond."

The San Francisco route will be operated with the new Airbus A330neo and TAP will be the first airline in the world to fly this new aircraft.

The A330neo aircraft features state-of-the-art personalised entertainment system and connectivity that allows for free text web based messaging for all passengers. TAP will be the first European airline to offer web based messaging on long haul flights complimentary for all clients.

"TAP will be the first airline in the world to fly the most efficient and comfortable aircraft in the world and also innovates with this new service, which allows all passengers to be always connected. We are proud to be the first European airline to offer unlimited Wi-Fi web based messaging service on transatlantic flights", said Antonoaldo Neves.

In the North American market, TAP had three destinations in 2015, and now has nine routes, increasing its weekly frequencies from 16 to 56. TAP has also reinforced the number of weekly flights from Porto to Newark (from two to six weekly flights).

In the North Atlantic, TAP flies to: San Francisco, Washington, Chicago, New York - JFK, New York - Newark, Boston and Miami, departing from Lisbon, and New York - Newark departing from Porto, as well as Toronto, Canada.

The expansion and renovation of the TAP´s fleet has made these new routes possible. The company has already received seven Airbus aircraft this year, with more arriving over the coming years, to a total of 71 new aircraft by 2025. The first new aircraft was an Airbus A320neo which has been in service since June and two Airbus A321neo’s joined the TAP fleet in September. A new Airbus A330neo arrived in Lisbon, with TAP set to become the first airline in the world to put this aircraft into service. On Saturday 8 December a new Airbus A321neo arrived, with another A321neo arriving in Lisbon from the Airbus factory on Tuesday 11 December.
