Finnair takes off with top APEX Five-Star Global Airline rating

Award-winning airline wins latest accolade based on customer reviews
For the first time Finnair has been awarded a Five-Star Global Airline rating by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX).  
The airline ratings are based entirely on verified feedback given by passengers and only nine per cent of airlines worldwide received enough votes for the prestigious five-star status for 2019.


Finnair was one of 470 passenger-rated airlines who took part in the rating exercise. This involved ensuring those customers who provided feedback were validated against confirmed itineraries and geo-location on mobile devices to ensure absolute transparency.

Their satisfaction is a team effort that is created every day, with every single encounter they have with us – be it onboard, at the airport, with our call centers or through our digital channels.  

“We have placed a strong focus on providing a personal customer service experience which is why we have rolled out numerous initiatives to improve the overall travelling experience for those who fly with us. It’s great to see this recognised and appreciated by our customers.”

Finnair’s innovation programme to constantly improve the customer experience has seen the airline renew its Business Class service concept. This rollout across its long-haul fleet means customers can now enjoy new signature menus created by top chefs, as well as refreshed cabin interiors with stylish new seat covers, pillows, blankets and Nordic-themed amenity kits.  

The investment in the travelling experience has also included refreshing and improving the airline’s Economy Class long-haul dining service. It showcases the best of modern Finnish culinary cuisine with special seasonal signature menus.  

Finnair is also currently rolling out world-class internet connectivity for all its European Airbus fleet. Its highly-popular mobile app has also proved a winner with customers and has been downloaded over a million times.  

Just two months ago, Finnair was also named ’Best Airline in Northern Europe’ for the ninth year in a row by Skytrax at The World Airline Awards. The accolade was based on an independent survey of over 20 million passengers, taken between August 2017 and May 2018, across 335 airlines.  

The Skytrax awards are widely recognised as a common benchmark for passenger satisfaction levels for many airlines throughout the world.  

Finnair has frequent flights from London Heathrow, Edinburgh, Manchester and Dublin to scores of long-haul destinations, including 19 in the Far East and Asia, via quick connections in Helsinki.  

Fares from Heathrow start from £97 return in Economy Class and £514 return in Business Class, including all taxes and charges.
