Aer Lingus regains top title in runway run event

Aer Lingus CEO, Stephen Kavanagh, welcoming the triumphant team back to Dublin
On Saturday 3rd September 17 Aer Lingus colleagues took on a host of airlines from across the world to regain both the top individual and team awards at the annual “BUD:Runway Run” in Budapest.
The BUD:Runway Run is the air transport industry’s premier charity-sportive event, taking place each September in Budapest Airport.

Competitors compete over 10km (four runway lengths) for a host of prizes including World’s Fastest Airline and Fastest Male / Female. All entry fees arising from the event are donated to cancer charities, and other child-focussed good causes.

Following an internal search for participants back in June, the Aer Lingus team beat off challenges from a host of international airlines to claim the World’s Fastest Airline and Fastest Male awards in a race that took place in a sweltering 35 degree heat.

Special congratulations went to Robert Murphy who won the Fastest Male title in an incredible 34:47. Robert was closely followed by James Liddane from our Cargo team in Shannon who finished third in an impressive 37:41.

Aer Lingus was also well represented in the fastest Female race with special mention going to Orla Gormley from our Corporate Safety team who finished second in a fantastic time of 43:32 while Shannon SCCM Carmel Coyne finishing third in a time of 45:44.
