Icelandair to begin flights to Portland, Oregon connectable from 5 UK airports

Icelandair will begin a scheduled service from Reykjavik (KEF) to Portland, Oregon on Tuesday 19th May 2015 with easy connections from the 5 UK airports they fly from.
Portland, Oregon will become Icelandair’s 14th gateway in the USA. The new flights will operate twice weekly from Reykjavik to Portland, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and back from Portland to Reykjavik on Wednesdays and Fridays from 19th of May 2015.

Portland was recently made famous for the back drop to a variety of successful films including the Twilight series and more recently the film Wild starring Reece Witherspoon.  The city has the most breweries and independent microbreweries of any city in the world; with 58 active breweries within its city limits, as well as 600+ food carts and food trucks so it’s a food lover’s paradise.

Andres Jonsson, General Manager of Icelandair UK, said: “We are delighted to begin flights to our newest gateway Portland, Oregon in the USA, to which all our flights from 5 UK airports will connect in Reykjavik. Our flight to Portland will be the quickest most convenient way to travel there from the UK and our passengers can also opt to have an additional stopover in Iceland en route for up to a week for no additional airfare to further extend their holiday experience.”

Andres explains: “By using Iceland’s geographical position midway between Europe and North America we offer some of the fastest elapsed times to the USA from 5 UK gateways.”

Icelandair have daily flights from London Heathrow and regular flights from Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow airports to Reykjavik that connect easily to 14 onward North American flights.

“Oregon is famous for its scenic splendor, award-winning wine and tax-free shopping,” said Todd Davidson, Travel Oregon CEO. “We look forward to welcoming more European visitors with Icelandair’s convenient non-stop flight from Reykjavik to Portland. We know that our diverse landscapes –340 miles of open coastline, mountains, valleys and high desert, abundant outdoor recreation, exciting urban centers and quaint small towns –  will create rewarding, lasting memories for anyone who visits.“

The Portland, Oregon service will operate with an Icelandair Boeing 757, seating 183 passengers, offering a three-cabin service, leather seats and personal in-flight entertainment system.
