Searcys wins contract with Exbury Gardens

Exbury Gardens
Beginning in March 2018, Searcys will provide their catering services to the famous Exbury Gardens. The spectacular 200 acre gardens were the inspiration of Lionel Nathan de Rothschild in 1919, whose vision created one of the finest woodland gardens in the country. The gardens still belong to the Rothschild family, and are in the village of Exbury, just east of Beaulieu in Hampshire.

Popular with all ages, Exbury Gardens hosts a large collection of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias, and can be explored either on foot, by chauffeur- driven buggy or by steam railway. Lionel de Rothschild, Chairman of Exbury Gardens comments that: "Searcys is a strong British brand operating at several iconic locations throughout the UK. Their focus on excellence and attention to detail make them an ideal choice and gives us access to an unparalleled breadth of experience to develop quality and innovative catering at Exbury."

The partnership with Searcys will bring in a new era for the Mr. Eddy’s Café & Restaurant, which will relaunch with a fresh look, and expand to include private areas for parties and social occasions. Mr. Eddy’s will provide guests with a menu that reflects the seasons and showcase the best of British produce with dishes such as a Trio of Cumberland sausages, or Baked salmon served with sauce vierge, dill, garlic potato cake and vegetables and a vegetarian option of Baked spiced bean and lentil, Mediterranean vegetables topped with feta cheese. Additionally, Searcys will give a further boost to the other three food outlets throughout the gardens, serving British homemade sandwiches, salads and cakes - perfect for visitors and locals wishing to have a picnic whilst enjoying stunning views.

With a longstanding heritage of innovation and quality, Searcys continues to champion British heritage and hospitality excellence. Synonymous with iconic restaurants, Champagne bars and memorable events, Searcys is working in partnership with historical properties, including Blenheim Palace, the Roman Baths and St Paul’s Cathedral.

Searcys’ menus for Exbury Gardens reflect the seasons and focus on the excellence of home- grown products, showcasing the best sustainable produce available in the British Isles. The close relationship Searcys has with British producers means that, in the summer months, 90% of all seasonal fruit and vegetables are grown in the UK, and sourced locally wherever possible. All eggs are free range, milk is Red Tractor certified, and all meat, including bacon and poultry, is UK-reared. All baking goods are made with British milled flour, and tea and coffee have been ethically sourced from independent suppliers. Searcys’ organic coffee is roasted by Extract Coffee in Bristol and is sourced from a cooperative of farmers in Peru and family-run estates in Guatemala and Colombia.

As the official catering partner to Exbury Gardens, Searcys will continue to support the values important to the business, which includes minimising the use of plastic in the historical venue. Plastic straws have been withdrawn, metal cutlery, china crockery and glassware will be provided for all food consumed in the cafes. Where disposable packaging is unavoidable, it will be minimised and aligned with strict waste management protocols.

“We are delighted to be able to add the stunning Exbury Gardens to our portfolio. This is an incredible opportunity to partner with a landmark British location that shares our commitment to provenance and sustainability. We are looking forward to providing the highest level of service in these wonderful surroundings, to help create memorable experiences together for our customers”, says Matt Thomas, Managing Director of Searcys.
