Welsh Government set to attract major business events with key new role

The Welsh Government has announced it will be making a major appointment, as it embarks on a new strategy to attract more major business events to Wales.
Applications are now open for the newly-created role of Head of Business Events, who will be responsible for promoting Wales as a leading destination for major international meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE).

Building on Wales’ strong track record of successfully hosting major global events, such as the UEFA Champion’s League Final, the new Head of Business Events will be required to attract further events to Wales aligned to key sectors such as healthcare, ICT and aerospace.

The new role will be central to creating and delivering a new sustainable approach for the Business Events team, engaging key partners across the public and private sectors and developing a long-term funding model.

The ideal candidate will possess existing management experience in the business events sector, and an excellent understanding of both the UK and international MICE markets. Excellent leadership and project management skills are required, as well as the ability to navigate complex public and private sector stakeholder relations, and guide a team to successful delivery of large-scale projects.
