Dimension Data – Incentive Case Study Penguins

Gemma Price – Incentives Project Manager at Penguins
Penguins events recently designed and delivered an incentive programme for global IT systems integrator – Dimension Data – in Lisbon, Portugal.
The events and incentive agency have been working with Dimension Data for a number of years supporting with their incentive programmes for both their sales and operational employees.

This particular incentive trip was designed to motivate and reward the 24 successful members of the sales team, with the aim of building team moral and re-energising the team whilst providing them with a once in a lifetime experience, exploring Lisbon in a unique way. Incentive programme:
Day one:

The Penguins team flew with the Dimension Data employees to Lisbon Portela Airport, from the airport they were whisked away on an exhilarating speed journey boat along the coast which set the tone for the forthcoming adventures. Once completed, the team headed over to the 5-star boutique hotel ‘Fontecruz Lisboa, part of the Autograph Collection’. Here they were welcomed with a VIP check in, and luxury drinks reception. With England playing Tunisia in the World Cup on the date of arrival, the Penguins team organised a private screening of the game in a local sports bar. As the evening continued, the guests were taken to “Duplex” one of Chef Nuno Bergonse’s most recent projects. This modern bar and restaurant is at the epicentre of the Lisboa nightlife, in the renowned pink street, where the group enjoyed a fantastic meal and partied into the small hours.

Day two:
The group kick-started their day with a short journey to the coast of Sesimbra, home to a beautiful fishing village, where the group had the option of three activities – kayaking and coasteering - activities were selected to get the blood pumping just enough to re-energise the group for the day ahead! For those that were looking for something a little more leisurely the third activity was a private dolphin tour around the coast on a fishing vessel. Lunch was taken on a private beach allowing the group to compare their mornings activities and take in the surroundings.

After lunch, safari jeeps arrived to take the group on a tour of the national park, where they were treated to views of some of the world’s longest beaches and the mountain tops which surround Lisbon. The safari tour ended at the exclusive winery ‘Hova’ in Jose Maria de Fonseca. At the heart of the winery is an extraordinary manor house, where the group had the chance to learn all about the local wines, with a spot of tasting of course. The evening was completed, with a meal at Bairro a Villez, a restaurant which is owned by renowned chef José Avillez in the centre of Lisbon.

Day three:
On the third day the group were treated to a gastronomic ‘Tuk Tuk’ tour of the city to learn more about the local culture and get a last look at the cities famous landmarks. After tasting a number of Portuguese delicacies, the group were taken to a local market sponsored by British media publisher, Time Out. Here the group participated in cookery classes, where they made a variety of traditional foods, risotto, and a fish course for main - with a chef making a local dessert for everyone to delve into.

Once the morning activities were complete each delegate had the opportunity to head back to the hotel and have some relaxation time, before dining at contemporary restaurant Kais-k for their finale dinner before departure to London.

Gemma Price, Incentives Project Manager at Penguins commented; “This incentive programme was a fantastic opportunity to gather the highest performers of the Dimension Data sales team together, supporting them to build stronger relationships and experience Lisbon in a way that is unattainable to the independent traveller. Lisbon is a fantastic destination with so much beauty, an all in all a great incentive destination.”

Dimension Data also commented, “This incentive trip ranks as one of the best the team at Dimension Data have participated in. The experience as a whole was fantastic for everyone. The culinary experiences especially were incredible, the ability to witness and learn more about Lisbon’s history, from a cultural and historical perspective was great – but it was more about the subtle way in which the team’s dynamic was built over the programme. We look forward to the next incentive trip.”
