Drive-in cinema event at Aberdeen Football Club sells out in less than 24 hours

A drive-in cinema at Aberdeen Football Club has sold out less than 24 hours after it was launched.
Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events, the club’s catering, events & hospitality partner, is transforming the car park at Pittodrie Stadium in to a giant, outdoor cinema to screen two showings of the festive film ‘Elf’ on 18th December.

A post advertising the screenings on its ‘Pittodrie Events’ Facebook page was seen by more than 100,000 people and the 240 tickets available were snapped up in less than 24 hours.

Kenny Garden, General Manager for Sodexo at Aberdeen Football Club, said: “We have had a phenomenal response to our Drive-In Cinema and have been absolutely blown away by the speed in which tickets sold out.

“The event was organised in order to provide a festive activity that all the family could enjoy. We’re really sorry to anyone who missed out this time around, but given the overwhelming demand, we are looking at planning further dates and showings in the near future.”

Tickets were sold at £20 a car and visitors simply tune their car radio to the event’s station in order to hear the film. A variety of cinema snacks will also be available to buy on the day.

December’s event is the second outdoor cinema to be staged at Pittodrie. Last year a showing of ‘Dirty Dancing’ was organised by students from Robert Gordon University in order to raise funds for the cancer charity Marie Curie.

Sodexo has enjoyed a partnership with Aberdeen Football Club for more than 20 years, providing catering and hospitality on both match-days and non-matchdays. The team is responsible for more than 200 events every year, including corporate meetings, conferences and private social occasions.
