Glasgow sweeps the board with award wins

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau swept the board last week receiving a number of coveted awards for the development of its PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW brand and its marketing planning strategy.
The city won an unprecedented three titles – two golds and one silver – at the Marketing Society Star Awards; a ceremony that celebrates the full spectrum of marketing excellence from the country’s budding young marketing and creative stars, through to leading organisations and individuals.

Launched by the Marketing Society for Scotland a decade ago, the prestigious awards celebrate best practice across the marketing industry and is judged by a panel of 80 influential business leaders during a four day period.

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau was recognised at a gala dinner by industry peers at Glasgow Science Centre last night (Thursday, June 19), which was hosted by journalist, presenter and screenwriter Rick Edwards, and attended by 500 marketeers from across the country.

Glasgow was acknowledged in three different categories; collecting gold for the Marketing Planning - Resources, Research and Insights Award for PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW in partnership with the UK’s leading creative branding and design agency Tayburn, and silver for the Brand Development again in partnership with Tayburn.

Head of Marketing Communications at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau Tom Rice clinched the highly sought-after Marketing Star of the Year Award in a category of leading marketeers from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, Tennent Caledonian Breweries, Caledonian MacBrayne, AG Barr and Graham’s Family Dairy.

This year has been one of the city’s most historically significant periods following Glasgow’s hosting of a number of major events and conferences including; the best ever Commonwealth Games, MTV Europe Music Awards, and the development of the world-renowned award-winning PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW brand.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has gone from strength to strength to position this city on the world’s map. Being recognised across a wealth of awards is testament to the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to showcase Glasgow to its full potential.

“It’s no coincidence that the people of Glasgow are at the heart of our brand and for that reason I want to congratulate all of the people in this city; those born and bred or those who have adopted Glasgow as their home; those people abroadd who call themselves proud Glaswegians. These awards are for you; you are the people who MAKE Glasgow.”

Sally Stanley, Chair of the 2015 Marketing Society Star Awards, said: “The standard of entries this year was at an all-time high. Our theme this year was proof prevails because marketers are under increasing pressure to deliver a significant ROI and demonstrate the positive impact of their work. Therefore to receive a Star Award is a highly regarded accolade and the winners really demonstrated the power of marketing.

“These awards reflect Scotland’s thriving marketing community, from in-house teams and agencies to veteran marketers and rising stars. It was a fantastic night and the industry celebrated in style.”
