Edinburgh Ambassadors generate millions for the City

Convention Edinburgh, the business tourism arm of Marketing Edinburgh Ltd, entertained many of its Ambassadors and members at its prestigious annual Ambassadors’ Dinner at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, attended by over 115 distinguished guests.

The evening was a unique opportunity to bring Ambassadors and members together for informal networking, and to encourage open discussion on collaborative working to continue to bring conferences to Scotland’s capital. Marketing Edinburgh’s award-winning Edinburgh Ambassador Programme has generated over £510 million economic impact for the city over the last 10 years.

The Ambassadors in attendance comprised of experts from a wide range of sectors and businesses including University of Edinburgh, Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, and Moredun Research Institute.  They enjoyed an evening of fine dining followed by after dinner speeches from Neil Baxter, Secretary & Treasurer at The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and Tristan Nesbitt, General Manager of the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa and Chairman of the Edinburgh Hotels Association.

Elaine Miller, Ambassador & Association Bid Manager at Convention Edinburgh said: “The dinner is a key event in the year and it presents an excellent opportunity for Ambassadors and members to share ideas and make new connections.  The Ambassadors present are working with Convention Edinburgh on events which have the potential to bring £25million worth of economic impact to Edinburgh. That’s something worth raising a glass to.”

The Edinburgh Ambassador Programme has over 500 Ambassadors representing all major academic and commercial fields in which Edinburgh has an international reputation. Its members are able to call upon Convention Edinburgh’s professional support and experience in order to prepare and present their bids to attract their association conference to the city.

Edinburgh is the number one ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) conference destination in the UK outside of London and rated 21 in the top 50 European City ranking.
