SEVERIN*S – The Alpine Retreat introduces Stephan Kriegelstein as Executive Chef

Stephan Kriegelstein
Stephan Kriegelstein has been appointed Executive Chef at luxury chalet hotel, SEVERIN*S – The Alpine Retreat, which will launch in spectacular style in Lech am Alberg on Thursday 22 December 2016.
Kriegelstein has spent the past ten years cooking for some of the best award-winning restaurants in Europe, sharing kitchens with Michelin-starred chefs and developing a unique culinary style, using seasonal produce to create contemporary yet unpretentious dishes.

His philosophy, ‘cooking is an expression of love, passion and joy of life’ can be found in every aspect of Stephan’s life. He began his career as a cook in the regional Bavarian restaurant Alpengasthof Sonnenhof. After finishing his traineeship, he started working in the restaurant of Colombi Hotel in Freiburg, which holds a Michelin star. Kriegelstein’s next steps took him to Switzerland to the renowned Grand Hotel Kronenhof and Hotel Waldhaus Sils Maria, after which he returned to Germany working for the prestigious Relais & Châteaux Hotel Vilino at Lake Constance.

From 2010 to 2012, Stephan Kriegelstein worked with the famous German chef Hans Horberth at the Hotel im Wasserturm restaurant, which was awarded two Michelin stars whilst he was there. He then took on the role of Sous Chef in the well-known restaurant “La Vetta” at Tschuggen Grand Hotel in Switzerland.

Prior to taking the helm of the kitchen at SEVERIN*S – The Alpine Retreat, Stephan joined The Omnia Mountain Lodge in Zermatt as Executive Chef, where he amazed his international guests with his creations. It took just one year for him to gain his first Michelin star. Stephan left Zermatt to fulfill one of his biggest dreams, a round the world adventure. During this time, he not only gained further experience, but his travels also broadened his culinary horizons. At SEVERIN*S – The Alpine Retreat, Stephan will continue to cement his success and looks forward to kicking off the winter season 2016/2017 with the launch of this inspirational restaurant in the mountains.

On the cuisine that will be offered at SEVERIN*S – The Alpine Retreat, Stephan commented “It is our aim to re-explore regional and traditional specialties, which have to be cultivated and developed. Our guests should receive a sophisticated insight into the traditions of the Arlberg region, combined with the harmony of nature and the variety of food we have here. At SEVERIN*S – The Alpine Retreat modern cooking techniques will meet flavours from all over the world and we will use the very best produce from regional businesses and farmers. We will create classic dishes with a unique twist”.
