Kempinski Gold Coast City Accra

Ghana’s leading luxury hotel welcomes British born chef & exciting new menu

Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City has announced the arrival of Executive Chef Simon Hague who brings with him a wealth of international culinary expertise. A British born Australian, Simon has over three decades of experience working in hotels around the world developing his passion for cooking North Asian cuisine and Mediterranean food with Asian flavours.

Accra’s only true 5* property, the Kempinski offers an incredible variety of international and local flavours. Simon will oversee the hotel’s five restaurants and bars, including newly-opened Cedar Garden restaurant and Papillon Restaurant.

Simon commented on joining the Kempinski Gold Coast City, “I am delighted to be joining this wonderful hotel and I will be working with the team to create an incredible menu featuring the exciting flavours of Accra with an international twist.”

Simon Hague
After studying his craft at the City and Guilds of London Institute, Simon emigrated to Australia where he began his career at the Sheraton Wentworth. In the three decades that followed, Simon has honed his skills and love of Asian and Mediterranean cuisine at hotels including Movenpick in Kuwait, Le Meridien in Malawi, the Intercontinental in Zambia and the Sheraton Imperial in Malaysia.

Simon takes advantage of fresh, local produce to make the most flavoursome dishes. One of Simon’s specialties, cider glazed apple muffins, is a tribute to his late grandmother who loved real home cooking.

Papillon Restaurant
Simon’s arrival at Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast heralds a new Menu for Papillon Restaurant. Papillon is a vibrant Mediterranean-inspired all day dining restaurant. Offering and showcasing outstanding flavors that travel the Mediterranean region from Spain to the Coast of Southern Italy in a casual and contemporary world-class atmosphere. The daylight flooded restaurant got its name from the butterfly shaped roof. An interactive open kitchen is the key element of this all-day dining restaurant; giving guests the chance to observe the chefs in action.

Quality and freshness are of paramount importance in creating an innovative and enticing new menu. Chef Simon’s 8-course tasting menu is a must for gourmands. Highlights include Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Lemon Cucumber, Basil, White Chocolate and Balsamic; Millefeuille of Foie Gras with Balsamic Reduction Jus served with Truffle Mushrooms, Fig confit, Yellow Baby Chicory; and Seared Tuna, dusted with fennel on a warm white bean salad. The place to see and be seen in Accra.

Dining Options
Further dining options available at the hotel, all overseen by Simon, include The Cedar Garden, a stylish outdoor restaurant offering an interactive and energetic dining experience, which celebrates the vibrant flavours of Levantine cuisine. In addition the Papillon Pool Lounge is adjacent to the infinity pool with cabana style seating for day and night. The Gallery Bar is the perfect place for guests to socialise and the Gallery Lounge is a sophisticated choice for afternoon tea or a glass of wine.

In joining the Kempinski Gold Coast City Accra, Simon has realised a long held ambition and he is excited to work for a company where his experience as a Chef can be utilised, developed and appreciated. He is enthusiastic to share his culinary knowledge with the Kempinski Ghanaian chefs and looks forward to experiencing the warm Ghanaian culture with his family.
