Finland – meeting point for Europe and Asia

Nina Hilden, Marketing Manager of Visit Finland, tells ITCM how Finland is holding its position in the world’s top 20 association destinations

One automatically assumes that Finland (which sounds like ‘the end of the land’) is a terminus as far as Europe is concerned. However. Nina Hilden soon puts you right on that. She is Marketing Manager of Visit Finland, based in Helsinki, and reminds you that the shortest and most direct route between Europe and Asia is over the Arctic Circle.

South Africa’s Lungi Morrison will have an impact

Sydney Paulden meets the new Country Manager for the London office

The new Country Manager for the South African Tourism Office in London is Lungi Morrison. I met her at EIBTM, where she told me that Lungi is short for Nomalungelo. Be warned - the translation of that is ‘Woman of Strength’ and she is aptly named. I came away from interviewing Lungi completely convinced that South Africa is set for a very powerful presence on the London scene for the five years of her contract.

Conventa – the unconventional SEE exhibition

Miha Kovacic, Director of the Slovenian CVB, explains the reasoning behind this pioneering event

SEE, we are sure you know, is South East Europe; and you probably know that it encompasses Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. The last-named country has taken the initiative to give this group of destinations a higher profile on the world’s MICE map. It stages Conventa, a MICE show where all the exhibitors are from SEE.
Conventa 2012, the fourth, will be held in Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, on 18 and 19 January.
