IMEX Frankfurt continues to grow

Carina Bauer, IMEX CEO

‘Business tourism is vital to so many global destinations’, Carina Bauer, IMEX CEO, tells Sydney Paulden

I look forward to my IMEX Frankfurt preview chat with Carina Bauer, because, as CEO of the exhibition, she is very closely in touch with what is happening in the MICE sector worldwide. She has the broad, global view as well as a grasp of the detail.
The Frankfurt show is likely to be bigger this year than last. ‘There has been a healthy demand for exhibition space’, Carina reports. ‘This is from new exhibitors and also existing exhibitors looking to expand their presence.‘

Birgül Özden talks to ITCM at IMEX

Meeting Birgül Özden is always a pleasure and very informative. President of Destination Business Solutions, based in Istanbul, she is very much a hands-on member of that highly successful family-run DMC. Her daughter, Eda, has become a member of ADME (the Association of DMC Executives) and has been elected to the Board of the World of DMCs.

And, yes, she has become aware of ‘cautious optimism’ not just on both sides of the Atlantic, but worldwide.

Always something new in Singapore

Interview with Oliver Chong, Director of Conventions & Meetings, Singapore Tourism Board

However, many destinations would be happy to be able to quote the statistics that he can quote for Singapore. ‘Hotels reported 84% occupancy in 2010. This was an improvement over 2009, but still below 2008.’
