Celebrating a year of achievements in style at Glazebrook House

Glazebrook House in Devon has proved to be perfect for parties, seeing in the New Year with a plush Masquerade Ball and with lots of glamorous events planned for 2017.
“The house lends itself to a black tie event, it’s that style of place” explains Pieter Hamman who owns the award-winning nine-bedroom hotel in South Brent with his wife, Fran.

“People particularly like fancy dress and the chance to get their glad rags on and they don’t get enough opportunities to dress up and have some fun. The ladies look gorgeous and the gents look dapper and smart.

“We had a lovely fireworks display, a good band and a fabulous seven-course tasting menu. We like to make the whole evening special with a mix of groups and couples and for many it was a nice chance to meet new people.”

The kitchens at Glazebrook House are run by an incredibly talented and creative team and this shone through with the New Year’s Eve menu. The menu consisted of 6 stunning courses, they were; Tasty Glazebrook Snacks, Goats Cheese Mousse, Smoked Salmon, Turbot, Honey Glazed Duck, Barkham Blue and all finished with a beautiful Duo of Chocolate.

It’s little wonder that the Glazebrook, which only opened in May 2014, has been winning award after award. In 2016 trophies included best wine list in the Small and Beautiful category at the prestigious Condé Nast Johansens travel awards in London, Gold in the Small Hotel/Boutique Accommodation category at the Devon Tourism Awards, Best Hotel Restaurant in the Food and Drink Devon ‘Love the Flavour’ awards and silver in the Hotel of the Year category at the English Riviera and South Devon Tourism and Hospitality Awards. The hotel also appears in the 2017 Good Food Guide and The Sunday Times has included it in a list of 100 Ultimate British Hotels for two years running.

“The year has just whirled by,” muses Pieter. “It’s amazing to look back and see what has happened in that time.” The Glazebrook is expecting to host around 20 weddings this year, spaced apart to allow for restaurant bookings and overnight stays, and there are several exclusive use events in the diary for “big” birthdays. The hotel will be closed from 9-20 January (but bookings can still be taken) and re-opens in time for a Burns Night celebration on 28 January. Look out, too, for ‘A Night at the Oscars in June’ which is set to be a fantastic summer event!

Pieter is expecting a busy summer again – concern over Brexit in 2016 seemed to encourage more people to enjoy a Staycation – and the odds look good for more awards. In February they are in contention for Best Small Boutique Hotel at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards. So keep your eyes peeled on the Glazebrook in 2017 and lets see what’s to come!
