Don Totu in Puglia to reopen Spring 2017

Don Totu Dimora Storica
A haven for the discerning traveller since it opened its doors to international guests in 2014, the 6-bedroomed luxury Don Totu Dimora Storica continues to raise the bar for boutique B&Bs with its latest plans for new facilities. With echoes of “La Dolce Vita”, the owners are recreating a slice of the golden era for guests to relive in this charmingly unspoiled region of Puglia.

Due to be completed by 12 April 2017, building work has started on a striking new Pool House, which will take the form of a classical Loggia incorporating original stonework arches and offering a cool covered lounge area for lazy lunches, poolside gelatos and evening aperitifs. The glamorous Pool House will play host to a reproduction of Matisse’s 18 metre long 1952 Cut-Out “La Piscine”, the original of which is at MOMA, with a further reproduction in ceramics gracing the walls of the Matisse Museum in Nice. Additional design highlights include 1950’s furniture by ground-breaking Italian designers Gio Ponti and Bonacina 1889 and four Art Deco chandeliers, which were originally from The Biltmore Hotel in Miami, est. 1926.

On the roof of the Pool House, an intimate Outdoor Cinema will screen a carefully curated weekly programme of classic Italian and art-house films with the stunning rooftop backdrop of the architecturally beautiful village of San Cassiano.

The new Pool House and Outdoor Cinema will further enhance the guest experience at the magical Don Totu. A wonderful example of a “hidden palazzo”, behind the unassuming Baroque façade, the 18th Century Don Totu Dimora Storica reveals six immaculately restored bedrooms set amongst an oasis of secret spaces and mature gardens.

The sympathetic restoration has been a labour of love for the current owners, Mauro and Chiara Bini, who opened Don Totu in 2014 as a boutique guesthouse after an extensive renovation plan, with interior re-design, converting out-buildings into charming spaces and facilities and most importantly, re-installing the soul of the building. They deliberately kept the number of bedrooms to a minimum, to ensure an excess of communal areas and private spaces and to be able to provide sufficient attention to each guest.  Offering their version of “total hospitality”, guests are welcomed warmly, by local staff ready to cater to their every need, and encouraged to enjoy Don Totu as their home from home. Rooms can be rented on an individual basis or the entire palazzo on an exclusive use basis (sleeping 14).

An all-inclusive price - from €170 (£147) per room night - includes the following:
·      An exceptional breakfast with exclusively homemade and locally sourced produce – adhering strictly to their “zero-mile” philosophy
·      Wi-fi throughout

Located in the heart of the Salento region of Puglia, the Southern most part of mainland Italy, Don Totu is perfectly positioned as the ideal base from which to explore the many charms of the area. An intriguing network of closely positioned, yet individually characterized, villages and towns plays well to scenic bicycle tours and relaxed journeys of discovery. Stunning coastlines, ancient olive groves, architectural wonders, local crafts and gastronomic treats are well within reach and appropriately recommended by Don Totu’s charming local staff, as well as the well-researched in-room guide books.
