Hotel Arts Barcelona celebrates impressive Catalan art collection

Only a stone’s throw away from Frank Gehry’s monumental shimmering golden fish, ‘Peix’ (1992), Hotel Arts Barcelona is inextricably bound to the city’s finest art and architecture. Hung within its tall glass and exposed steel façade, lies a world-class contemporary Catalan art collection that is as slick and striking as the hotel itself.

Encouraging guests to deepen their knowledge of Catalan art, Hotel Arts Barcelona has trained its staff to answer guests’ questions about the collection, schooling them in the anecdotes, acquisitions and details that bring the works’ histories to life. The hotel is also launching tours around the city’s most treasured cultural landmarks and galleries, such as Xavier Corbero’s house, MACBA and Gallery Malborough, all of which showcase artists displayed in the hotel’s own collection.

Discover contemporary Catalan culture without leaving the hotel
Comprised of some 500 works, Hotel Arts Barcelona’s collection includes sculpture, photographs and paintings – many of which were specially commissioned for their present home. The collection is an ode to Spanish culture, style and modernity, and is spread throughout the hotel’s airy public spaces. Exploring the local influences and political struggles that gave rise to the talents of Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Antoni Gaudi, Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso, the hotel’s prized collection includes work by leading contemporary abstract Catalan artists such as Albert Rafols-Casamada, Jose Manuel Broto, Luis Feito, Manolo Valdez and Xavier Corberó.

Celebrating 90 years since the death of Antoni Gaudi
Hotel Arts Barcelona will be offering tours of the architect’s iconic Art Nouveau landmarks, including La Sagrada Familia and Casa Batlo, to commemorate 2016 as the 90th anniversary of Antoni Gaudi’s death. Visits to another lesser-known Gaudi attraction, Nau Gaudí can also be arranged through the hotel. Less than 20 miles outside the city and designed by the artist at the age of 26, the building’s rustic interiors exhibit 20th century Catalan art, providing enlightening context for Hotel Arts Barcelona’s own contemporary collection.

Exploring the collection’s artists, further afield
Guests looking to delve deeper into the lives of artists represented in the hotel’s collection can arrange expert-led trips to the Escher-like ramparts of sculpture Xavier Corbero’s ghostly home, as well as the abstract expressionist paintings of Manuel Broto, on display at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, and graphic portraits of Manolo Valdes, on show at the Galeria Marlborough.
