Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa celebrates Green Globe Re-Certification success

Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa
Nestled in the clifftops on the Northwest coast of Mallorca, Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa has once again met the strict requirements set by Green Globe, remaining the only hotel on the island to have received this internationally-recognised certification for sustainable tourism.

Over the course of the last year, the hotel has taken further steps to integrate sustainable methods into its every day operations. Measures include: the installation of solar thermal and photovoltaic panels, Tesla electronic car charging points, the creation of green rooftops covered in a 40cm layer of soil and the introduction of a greywater recycling system.

Additional environmental initiatives include: collaborations with the Black Vulture Conservation Foundation, which protects the endangered black vulture native to Mallorca and also the Reforestation and Environmental Restoration Plan, which is aimed at restoring protected areas. Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa has also signed an agreement with ALLCOT to offset carbon emissions from employee trips through investment in the ‘Brazilian Rosewood Amazon Conservation’ project to eliminate an equivalent volume of emissions.

The hotel has continued to increase its involvement in the local community. It recently announced a unique partnership with local olive oil producer ‘Cooperativa de Sóller’ to create a bespoke olive oil, which is sold exclusively at the hotel. As part of the ‘Unique Experiences’ programme, guests can even go behind the scenes to discover more about how the olive oil is produced.  Other social initiatives include the collection of plastic bottle tops, the donation of unwanted clothes to local charities and a collaboration with Restaurants Against Hunger, a charity which ensures nobody goes without a proper daily meal.

The renewed Green Globe certification is testament to the hotel’s ongoing commitment to being environmentally-friendly and socially sustainable, in order to preserve the beauty of its natural surroundings and local community for many years to come.
