Pokémon Go Master has 'caught 'em all' with help from Marriott Rewards

Marriott Rewards is celebrating after teaming up with Brooklyn-based Nick Johnson – the first person to catch all of the international Pokémon creatures – to assist with his journey to Paris, Hong Kong and Sydney. By giving him the loyalty points needed for his hotel stays around the world, Marriott Rewards helped Nick achieve his goal within two weeks of the game’s launch.

Nick began his trip with a stay at the Renaissance Arc de Triomphe Hotel in Paris to capture Mr. Mime, a character exclusive to Europe, and continued on to Hong Kong and Sydney last week.

On arrival at the Renaissance Arc de Triomphe, Nick and his girlfriend were greeted by a mascot Pikachu: "As a passionate Pokémon player, I was very surprised and excited to be greeted by Pikachu. He wished us good luck and motivated us to set off on our quest for the day!"

The location of the Renaissance Arc de Triomphe Hotel was also ideal for catching Pokémon: "The Champs-Élysées, right near the hotel, was a great spot to find Pokémon, and there’s a ton of Pokéstops there too! My girlfriend and I spent some time walking there catching Pokémon at night.”

Marriott Rewards, which has its European head office in London, helped Nick pursue his passion for Pokémon throughout his journey: "I received Marriott Rewards points that I used to book my hotel stays, making my travel experience easier and less stressful, which is great considering we’re doing a lot of travelling,” Nick said.

Some Pokémon such as Mr. Mime only exist in Europe. "I got a lot of support from Reddit and followers on Twitter and Snapchat. They helped me pinpoint where in Paris Mr. Mime Pokémon was now spawning, right near the border between Montrouge and the 14th arrondissement.” While Nick travelled there by taxi, another player warned him of the appearance of Mr. Mime not far from where he was. The Pokémon master quickly changed destination, much to the amusement of his driver, and managed to capture the rare Pokémon.

Nick shared his Pokémon GO journey on social networks. His Snapchat and Twitter accounts are full of pictures of Pokémon in unusual places: an airplane, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. You can follow the adventures of Nick and his Pokémon on Twitter @ NLJ_1 and Snapchat under the name @ nja212.

Whilst on his quest to complete the game, Nick shared his tips for becoming a better trainer: “Talk to other trainers!  The community around the game all over the world is amazing. I never would have caught Mr. Mime if not for the huge wave of support I received from the community in Paris.  I’m incredibly grateful for the tips and messages of support I’ve gotten so far during my trip. What an amazing experience!”
