CampbellGray Hotels announces the re-opening of The Phoenicia Malta

The Phoenicia Malta, guestroom
The Phoenicia Malta is due to re-open in November 2016 following a large-scale refurbishment, reaffirming its long-held reputation as Malta’s leading luxury hotel. A recent addition to the CampbellGray Hotels portfolio, the relaunch will herald a new era for this much-loved grand hotel located in the island’s capital, Valletta.

Significant investment has been made to ensure the continued success of the hotel and to align The Phoenicia Malta with other CampbellGray properties including Le Gray Beirut, CampbellGray Hotel & Residences, Amman and The Machrie Hotel and Golf Links on the Isle of Islay in Scotland (the latter two scheduled to open in 2018).

The Phoenicia’s renovation is testament to CampbellGray Hotels commitment to providing unmatched comfort, thoughtful service and modern amenities that today’s luxury global travellers expect, recently endorsed by its membership of The Leading Hotels of the World.

As The Phoenicia Malta’s architectural beauty is widely considered to be one of the sights of Malta, the re-launch will be sympathetic to the hotel’s heritage with the design by Peter Young Design and Mary Fox Linton. Upon reopening, the hotel will boast a complete refurbishment and upgrading of all 136 elegantly appointed guest rooms, many with glorious harbour views, a new outdoor infinity pool overlooking the harbour, and a re-landscaping of the hotel’s grounds and terraces. The Grand Ballroom will also be refurbished and The Phoenicia’s classic façade will be restored. A new Health Club and Spa offering eight treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art gymnasium and an indoor swimming pool will be unveiled in early 2017.

During the renovation the discovery of a potentially ancient section of the Bastion Wall resulted in a short delay to works while the area was sensitively examined. Happily, this has now been resolved and the opening is back on track, with the hotel welcoming its first guests in November.

Gordon Campbell Gray, Founder of CampbellGray Hotels said “The Phoenicia has long been regarded as the Grand Dame Hotel of Malta and, when the opportunity arose to take over this classic property, I jumped at the chance.  Our aim has been to restore The Phoenicia to its original grandeur yet implement improvements that will appeal to a discerning modern-day guest. We are excited about revealing the new-look Phoenicia this winter”.
