The sixth Paris hotel for the Renaissance Hotels group, the Renaissance Paris République opens its doors, after two and a half years of building work. Moments from the Place de la République and the Canal Saint Martin, the new hotel is at the heart of the hip, culturally diverse Upper Marais area. 

Architect Eric Haour has overseen the transformation of this former office building, typical of the 1970s, into a 5-star hotel occupying some 3,500 sq m. With rooms and suites spread over nine floors, a restaurant, bar, spa and three rooms for business meetings, it is a unique address in a vibrant, cosmopolitan neighbourhood. Resolutely part of contemporary Paris, the building has an attractive originality, its zinc facade punctuated with a grid of raised, porthole-type windows, a feature of post-modern architecture, with rounded corners.

Didier Gomez is responsible for the interior design of this new Parisian hotel project. His approach was to design a 5-star hotel that fitted with the République neighbourhood and the building’s architecture. His is a very particular take on luxury, with none of the ostentation and sometimes intimidating atmosphere of many 5-star hotels. Instead, he has created a hotel with a welcoming and very urban feel. Influenced by the cultural mix of the area around the hotel, Didier Gomez has drawn on influences from the 1950s and ‘60s, sourcing key pieces of furniture, and designing a significant number himself to liven things up, and give an authenticity to the hotel’s spaces, which reference Godard’s films, the designs of Pierre Guariche or Le Corbusier. Each of the hotel’s 121 rooms has something of the feel of an artist’s studio.

The bar: Le Martin
Coffee at the counter in the morning, or a cocktail in the evening, the Martin bar is open throughout the day.

A barista will prepare your choice from a menu of coffees (latte art) from the Brûlerie Caron. Teas are a selection of the finest varieties from Claus (Paris). In the evening, the bars mixologists propose their signature cocktails and Twists inspired by the République neighbourhood and Paris itself, largely prepared using French spirits.

The locavore restaurant: Origin
The Origin restaurant provides a refuge from the busy Grands Boulevards.

Food, prepared by Bénédicte Van Der Motte is ‘bistronomique’; made with fresh market produce, seasonal ingredients supplied by local producers are employed to create a French composition around three flavours and textures on the plate. 

O by Sothys, the spa
The O by Sothys spa, time out for complete relaxation, offers a concept, unique in Paris, of beds of sand in their two booths.

The dry heat and softness of the quartz sand envelops the body, immediately relaxing it before any body modelling or wrap treatments.
