QHotels set to transform menu development at events

Conference and events hotel group QHotels is set to redevelop menu options at events after analysing data from the recently implemented TellTheChef app.  
Following a successful trial of the food ordering app, which was used by over 14,000 diners over the Christmas period, QHotels can now respond to trends in diner preferences in its menu development for events held at each of its 26 venues.

TellTheChef allows diners attending events to pre-order food and leave individual feedback, providing the hotel group with detailed data on each event. The app itself can be used for a range of different events, including conferences, wedding parties and training events - meaning the group’s food and beverage teams can understand and predict trends more accurately than ever before.  

The insight allows the events teams to create the perfect menu for each event, ensuring all the most popular choices are offered.  

Russ Brown, Food and Beverage Director at QHotels explains: “As an example of the kind of data we’ve been looking at, over the Christmas party period, demand for the traditional Christmas turkey dinner remained high from the first parties in November through to the days leading up to 25th December. Over 70% of diners consistently chose the traditional Christmas dinner option. What surprised us though, was that demand for Christmas pudding almost halved as Christmas Day approached. Across the group, 35% of diners ordered it in late November, but this fell to just 18% by late December.  

“Whether this is because our diners had too much of a good thing early on or started thinking they should save themselves for the big day we don’t yet know – but these are the type of trends we can focus on and use to inform our future menu plans.”
