Alila Solo to launch with new experiences

Immersive Destination Discoveries, Active Adventures and Cultural Encounters

Alila Solo, in Surakarta Central, Java, is set to open in November 2015, becoming the city’s first luxury lifestyle hotel. Located at the gateway of Solo and close to the cultural hub of Java, the hotel is perfectly located for those who want to explore the art, music and culture that the city has to offer.

The hotel has created a range of Alila Experiences, which will be available to guests when it opens next month. Each Experience has been carefully created by the hotel’s leisure concierge team, with the aim of showcasing the destinations history, traditions, cuisine, environment and architecture alongside the daily life and rituals of the surrounding city. Each Experience is grouped according to theme: Cultural Learning, Conscious Living, Active Spirit, Culinary Delights, Private Pursuits and Couple Celebration.

Cultural Learning experiences offer a window into Javanese culture and daily life. There’s four different itineraries for guests to choose from, spanning history, religion, architecture and art. The Tale of Two Sultans will allow guests to step back in time and explore the city’s two ruling royal palaces, Keraton Kasunanan and Pura Mangkunegaran. The House of Danar Hadi experience will give an insider’s guide to the mesmerising museum collection that showcases Indonesia’s cultural legacy. For those that want to explore Java’s vibrant street markets, Morning Markets will allow guests to immerse themselves in street life whilst sampling local delicacies and honing their bargaining skills at Pasar Gede and Pasar Antik Triwindu. A Short History of Solo, is a chance to view precious artifacts at Radya Pustaka Museum including works by famous 19th Century poet Rangga Warsita, DEIC cannons, mystical sculptures, wayang puppets and Javanese keris daggers.

For those that keen to explore the diverse landscape of Solo, from volcanoes to jungle, the Active Spirit experiences are exhilarating adventures. The Two to Candi is a breath-taking temple trail to Candi Cetho, a Hindu place of worship associated with clarity and rebirth, and Candi Sukuh, a striking truncated-pyramid style temple of fertility. Fresh Lawu is a six-hour adventure where guests can encounter cascading waterfalls, dramatic temples and tea plantations. The Rafting Wild Elo (Magelang) is an awe-inspiring 12.5km white-water rafting trip  - the pace can be tailored to suit families or those looking for an adrenaline rush. For a slightly slower pace, the Tale of Three Temples is a tour of UNESCO Borobudur Temple, the world’s largest Buddhist monument, Candi Ratu Boko, which dates to the Saliendra Dynasty between 760-780 and Candi Prambanan, an 8th Century temple and the world’s most beautiful example of Hindu architecture.

Gourmet travellers will relish the Culinary Delights experiences, an opportunity to savour regional flavours and national dishes, discover authentic delicacies and local spice secrets. Guests can join the hotel's chef on a market tour followed by a cooking class, creating dishes using ingredients bought at the market that morning. For a taste of tradition, guests can indulge in a rijsttafel dining experience, Alila Solo's contemporary version of a Dutch colonial feast, representing the multi-ethic culinary heritage of the Indonesian archipelago.

Conscious Living experiences focus around wellbeing and healthy living. Inspired by local history and wisdom, the experiences encompass body and mind with spa treatments, healthy cuisine, yoga and meditation. Health conscious guests can request private yoga sessions in the spa or in their room. The onsite Spa Alila is a city sanctuary that will blend Asian healing techniques with age-old beauty recipes. Products are a blend of indigenous ingredients (plants, fruits, herbs and spices): soothing cucumber and aloe vera, refreshing lemongrass and ginger, and toning coffee and coconut.

Solo is the perfect destination for those with a love for art, design and history. Guests can explore a wealth of cultural wonders, courtly rituals and artistic traditions. From learning how the traditional Javanese dagger (keris) is made, to exploring the shops and stately architecture of Kampung Kauman, perusing the range of authentic, hand-painted fabrics and picking up a few pointers at a Batik art class. Or practicing the intricate hand movements, subtle head turns and graceful steps of classical Javanese dance at a Soerya Soemirat dance workshop.
