Seaham Hall unveils a swanky new events space and new team-building activities

Seaham Hall paddle boarding
With a 37-acre adventure playground for team-building activities, a brand-new, modern events space and easy transport links between key business travel hubs, Seaham Hall on Durham’s Heritage Coast offers an ideal venue for meetings, conferences and events.

Behind the 18th century walls of the Georgian manor house, Seaham Hall offers contemporary and luxurious interior design, blending the old with the new and eclectic. With a £2M refurbishment now complete, the hotel features 20 individually-designed suites, two restaurants and an impressive 44,000 sq ft spa, together with almost 99 m2 of event space – now with four separate, well-appointed rooms, all with natural daylight and stunning views across the grounds and coast.

The Vortex (available from 31 August):
The Vortex offers corporate clients a new, multi-use space to inspire creative thinking.  The new room, accommodating up to 40 guests, can be transformed from a typical meeting space to something less conventional, to ensure that meetings are productive, as well as fun and conducive to some camaraderie. Swapping the furniture for bean bags is one option, for example, offering a comfortable and relaxed environment that helps to increase productivity by encouraging free and open conversation between employees, employers and/or clients.

The Vortex boasts state-of-the-art in-built AV facilities, together with its unique design concept. Décor has the power to inspire, impress and motivate, and Seaham Hall has worked closely with designer Louise James of Koncept ID to create a space that is both stimulating and professional. Taking inspiration directly from the iconic water feature at the front of the hotel that shares its name – and also, more abstractly, from its location by the sea – the movement of water is seen in the bespoke carpet design. The wallpaper features giant vintage jellyfish illustrations, while soft sculptural urchin-like furniture fills the room. This is combined with a contemporary twist on a grand Georgian Break-Front bookcase, which complements the historical context of the building.

Following new partnerships with two local companies – Valley Adventures and Karting North East – Seaham Hall has built upon its existing activities on offer for corporate parties. Within its own grounds, Seaham Hall can now offer a wide range of team-building activities, including falconry, treasure hunts, bush craft and cookery classes. On top of this, Valley Adventures offers archery, paddle-boarding, surfing, scavenger hunts, coastal discovery days, orienteering, circus skills, military-style assault courses and raft building, while Karting North East offers professional Karting experiences, plus paintball, rage rally, archery, tomahawks and off-road 4x4 driving.

Alongside the new Vortex room, Seaham Hall’s corporate spaces include the Annabella room, which was redesigned in 2014 and has a capacity for up to 30 people, and the Bryon Room, the venue for the wedding of Lord Byron and Annabella Milbanke in 1815, which holds up to 40 people. The Ballroom offers the largest space (up to 120 people), with lovely views across the grounds. Seaham Hall is also available for exclusive use (from £25,000).

The hotel’s main restaurant, award-winning Byron’s Bar & Grill, is headed by Chef Simon Bolsover and offers customised group menus for private events, dinner parties and business meetings. Before or after dinner, groups can enjoy drinks in the lounge bar or the Taittinger Sports Lounge, complete with leather sofas, wide-screen TV and full-size American pool table. The Sports Lounge is also available for private hire for up to 30 people. Wi-free is free throughout.

For overnight stays, Seaham Hall also offers full use of its extensive Serenity Spa, complete with 20-metre pool, outdoor hot tubs, thermal bathing experiences and fully-equipped gymnasium, as well as a large choice of tailored treatments for both men and women. The spa is available to guests from 12 noon on the day of arrival to 12 noon on the day of departure.

CORPORATE PACKAGES: The Day Delegate Rate starts from £55 pp, which includes the use of the main meeting room, refreshments on arrival and mid-morning, two-course lunch or working buffet lunch, afternoon tea, AV equipment, complimentary parking and WIFI. The Residential Delegate Rate starts from £225 pp, which includes all of the above, plus an overnight stay in a Junior Suite, a three-course dinner, full English breakfast and use of the Serenity Spa.
