andBeyond Benguerra Island, Mozambique opens

andBeyond Benguerra Island
andBeyond Benguerra Island reopened yesterday (1 June) following a brilliant transformation. The lodge - which closed in October 2014 - is all about simple, barefoot luxury and takes inspiration from Mozambique’s Portuguese heritage. With interiors that reflect the natural beauty of the landscape through light island colours and traditional Mozambique style, its location and complete re-design make it one of the most exciting openings of 2015.

This remote retreat of 13 thatched casinhas and cabanas – each with its own private swimming pool and direct access to the beach - is perfectly located in a marine conservation area. It sits alongside a permanent deep water channel which is known for its excellent game fishing, just one of many water-based activities guests can enjoy.

The archipelago is also home to Africa’s last remaining population of dugong – a cousin of the manatee and commonly known as a ‘sea cow’ – as well as 140 bird species and one of the most pristine coral reefs in the world.

Fly-and-Transfer: Flights from Johannesburg to Vilanculos take approximately 2 hours followed by a short helicopter flight transfer to the Benguerra airstrip. The lodge – andBeyond Benguerra Island – is located 10 minutes from the airstrip, by road. New flights from Nelspruit to Vilanculos take 1 hour 15 minutes – there are two flights per week
