St James Bar launches innovative Spring-Summer cocktail collection, inspired by the life of Coco Chanel

Just in time for the sunshine, the St James Bar at Sofitel London St James has unveiled its new cocktail creations, inspired by the life of Coco Chanel.
The new menu focuses on Coco Chanel’s most significant life events, friendships, and favourite movies as she propelled into the limelight as one of the world’s most iconic fashion designers. Head Bartender Emilio Moscati and his expert team of mixologists formulated the seven inventive, exclusive cocktails on the new spring / summer menu, using a measure of research, a splash of creativity and a dash of imagination.

Alfred Hitchcock, Carmen Miranda, Madame Butterfly and Ewald André Dupont all served as muses to these film-inspired cocktail offerings. The ‘Under Capricorn,’ modelled on the 1949 great love affair movie, fuses exotic Tanqueray Gin, Rhubarb Liqueur, home-made Earl Grey syrup, with Zacapa 23, Cherry Liqueur and fresh lime juice, creating a tropical cocktail with a British twist, as a tribute to Hitchcock, ‘the master of suspense.’

The ‘Piccadilly,’ not only invites guests to the area in London in which it can be sampled, but also transports them to the 1929 British silent drama film, directed by Ewald André Dupont. Based around a 1920’s London nightclub, the cocktail – much like the film – takes guests on an intricate sensorial journey of suspense, with an Oriental twist. Gin, Port Syrup fortified in Lapsang Souchong tea, pear nectar and fresh lemon juice are shaken together to create this truly unique cocktail.

Another example is ‘A Propos de Nice,’ a cocktail based on the 1930 silent documentary, depicting life in Nice. A mix of Tanqueray Gin, fresh lemon, house-made raspberry syrup, balsamic raspberry cinnamon shrub, lavender bitters, takes taste buds on a trip around Provence, a region close to Coco Chanel’s heart.

All of these cocktails are available now to be enjoyed at the St James Bar. Guests can now browse the menu and read about the inspiration behind them, using the brand new iPads present in the bar.

The St James Bar design takes its inspiration from Coco Chanel’s 1920’s apartment, a glamorous Parisian room with its décor of Shagreen and kinon topped tables, French antique gilt chairs, along with mahogany leather and contemporary prints by Blek Le Rat.
