The Berkeley to launch Alexander McQueen Pret-a-Portea in celebration of Savage Beauty at the V&A

Alexander McQueen Pret-a-Portea afternoon tea
To celebrate the launch of the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum on 14th March 2015, the Berkeley is set to wow fashionistas with the inclusion of two of the designer’s most iconic designs as part of its Pret-a-Portea fashion afternoon tea.
Taking inspiration from the famous footwear that put the fashion flock into frenzy when it took to the catwalk in October 2009, the Berkeley has recreated Alexander McQueen’s “armadillo” shoes as a heeled chocolate biscuit with cream icing and edible sparkles.

The second addition reinvents the much adored feather Butterfly Hat by Philip Treacy for Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer Collection in 2008, blending a deliciously dark chocolate mousse set on a sablé breton glazed with a chocolate miroir and delicate red sugar butterflies.

Head pastry chef at the Berkeley, Mourad Khiat says “Being inspired by world class fashion designers to create our Pret-a-Portea is always a highlight and with the launch of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty we’ve tried to create something quite unique paying homage to a wildly creative design genius and British legend.”

For those lucky few to have obtained tickets to the acclaimed exhibition or simply following a day of shopping at nearby style havens Harvey Nichols and Harrods, fashion fans are invited to indulge in the Savage Beauty Pret-a-Portea alongside other fashion favourites including Moschino’s quirky ‘Yellow M’ handbag recreated with a blood orange Victoria sponge swathed in red quilted chocolate and Dolce & Gabbana’s whimsical night owl with blackcurrant bavarois and star anise pannacotta.

A favourite for fashion aficionados, Prêt-à-Portea adds an innovative twist to the traditional English afternoon tea, served in The Caramel Room at The Berkeley from 1-6pm every day priced at £41 per person (£49 including a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne or £55 per person including a glass of couture champagne). A bespoke collection of fine-bone china by Wedgewood has been created for the Berkeley especially for Prêt-à-Portea.
