Mad Men in Manhattan

Discover the hit TV show’s hotspots with a little help from Apple Core Hotels

The final episodes of the 1960s drama Mad Men air in April and will no doubt leave viewers yearning for a slice of the Big Apple and an Old Fashioned cocktail or two. Fortunately, help is at hand for fans of the show with Apple Core Hotels’ Mad Men Map of Manhattan, so guests can discover the hotspots that Don Draper and the Sterling Cooper crowd frequent.

Happily, many of these fine establishments are still going strong and are just as popular today as they were in the swinging 60s. Remember the subterranean Grand Central Oyster Bar where Don Draper and Roger Sterling shared a few too many lunchtime martinis? Or P.J. Clarke’s, the famous watering hole where the advertising highflyers danced the twist to celebrate Peggy Olson’s first copywriting assignment for the Belle Jolie ad campaign?

How about the original Benihana Japanese Steakhouse restaurant which Don frequents in the name of research to win a prestigious Japanese client? It is here too that we first meet Ted Chaough, Don’s rival and later business partner. Of course, a visit to New York wouldn’t be complete without a stroll along the home of advertising, Madison Avenue, where the headquarters for Bert Cooper and Roger Sterling’s agency was located for the first three seasons.

Stay a short stroll from the show’s favourite haunts at Midtown Manhattan’s nyma, the new york manhattan hotel, The Hotel @ Times Square or broadway @ times square hotel, where a one-night stay costs from $215/ approx. £142 per room per night (two sharing) including a copy of the Mad Men Map of Manhattan. Excellent free-of-charge amenities include WiFi, continental breakfast (think fresh bagels, jams, cereal and yoghurt), calls nationwide, 24-hour business centres, fitness centres and in-room coffee makers.

Rooftop bars with sweeping city views have recently-opened at nyma, the new york manhattan hotel (Cloud Social) and The Hotel @ Times Square (VU46). The Mad Men team would love them!
