The Greenhouse Restaurant at BEST WESTERN PLUS Castle Green Hotel under major refurbishment

The two AA Rosette awarded Greenhouse Restaurant at BEST WESTERN PLUS Castle Green Hotel in Kendal is undergoing a major refurbishment to be completed by February, with an investment of £250,000 made in upgrading its interiors and the adjacent lounge and bar.

‘The Greenhouse has been a hugely successful part of the Hotel’s business. We want to continue to invest in providing a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere as well as innovative Lake District food, with the new look of The Greenhouse and new menus inspired by the natural beauty of our local area.’’ said hotel general manager Ben Mayou.

The new design scheme uses an earthy palette with fruity accents: burnt orange, plum and raspberry, tempered in the conservatory area with light and airy duck egg and cream. A bespoke carpet design reflects this colour palette with printed leafy fronds appearing to invite customers into the restaurant - where they will be rewarded with superb views of the gardens and surrounding countryside.

The layout has also been redefined to create a larger bar area with cosy banquette seating and feature log burner, with the lounge more colourfully dramatic with bright sofas and domed roof light, and a focal point of a large, beautifully detailed print by the artist Casey Moore. The centre of the restaurant has been subtly divided into two areas by adding lighting features to the ceiling and a more intimate dining space has been helped by a new ambient lighting scheme.

Executive head chef at the BEST WESTERN PLUS Castle Green, Justin Woods, added: ‘A new menu is being created around our hallmark of showcasing the best Lake District produce in a contemporary and inspiring way.’

The Greenhouse features a 5 course tasting menu, alongside its a la carte choices with a selection of sharing dishes and a daily changing menu. All are based around the excellent seasonal, local produce available on its doorstep.

‘I firmly believe that if you stand still in business you go backwards.’ Says BEST WESTERN PLUS Castle Green managing director Tim Rumney, ‘This investment is another example of our approach to establish The Castle Green as one of the premier hotels in the North West and gives our customers and team a fantastic new facility to enjoy.’
