Cocktails with Capital views at the W. D.C

W Washington D.C.POV Lounge
In D.C., a cocktail with a view is quite the coveted experience, and at the W Washington D.C.’s newly renovated POV lounge and terrace, a martini with a capital view is just what you’ll get. When it came time to renovate POV, Starwood brought on award-winning interior architecture and design studio nemaworkshop to draw inspiration from D.C.’s rich history, and craft a bold, playful concept that blends the capital’s iconic architecture, historical importance, and nightlife scene..

The 5,000-square-foot space atop the W. D.C. features three bars, one indoor and two half-outdoor, that can transition seamlessly from day to night, serving D.C. from brunch, to happy hour and for those left standing, late night cocktails. Inside, nemaworkshop created different areas to allow guests to interact with one another in varying settings from communal areas, to banquettes and seating nooks.

Upon arrival, guests step off the elevator and are immediately immersed into the art and design that surrounds them, a 50-foot-long red tape metal wall greets them, a cheeky nod to D.C.’s bureaucratic reputation. Making way through the space, the red white and blue of oh-so-symbolic American Flag are evidently woven through the design and blended with metallic hues of gold and silver. Next stop: the bar. As guests await their cocktail, they’ll notice portraits of political figures crafted from brass dowels hanging behind the POV bar.

Other design highlights include white pieces of molding that are backlit by LED lights, mimicking the White House’s cornices; street artist Aiko created a mural that depicts D.C. landmarks, and above a communal table, illuminated numbers referencing the date of the Residence Act suspend above; and a rounded bar, influences by the Capitol dome, honors the Union Station’s coffered ceiling.
