New floating hotel blends luxury with the highest hygiene standards

The luxurious Sunborn Gibraltar yacht hotel
The luxurious Sunborn Gibraltar yacht hotel is working with Cristal International Standards to bring the highest levels of hygiene to this new concept of five star accommodation. Together they are providing comfort and luxury combined with the measurable standards expected of onshore hotels.

The Sunborn Gibraltar has been developed to deliver the unique experience of a hotel stay on water after demand for a new deluxe hotel grew with limited space to build on the mainland. Exemplary hygiene standards for guests are provided by Cristal International Standards (CIS,) with processes to benchmark performance and maintain the hotel’s brand image.

The e-Cristal electronic auditing solution acts as an important part of the hotel’s ongoing assessment. This includes modules such as FoodCheck, which measures performance of food safety standards and RoomCheck, which monitors cleaning operations against an international benchmark for housekeeping performance. DineCheck is being used by Sunborn staff to provide high standards of hygiene and safety throughout the hotel’s five star restaurants and bars, alongside SpaCheck, ensuring that spa facilities are free from risks such as legionella.

Juri Williamson, HR & Company Administration Manager at the Sunborn Gibraltar hotel, explains, “Outstanding luxury is important at the hotel, but this needs to be matched with the best standards of safety and hygiene. Cristal International Standards is key to ensuring that we manage the wellbeing of guests on-board, guaranteeing that every area of the yacht is exceptional.”

“Sunborn Gibraltar is thinking through every detail of the hotel to make sure that the guest experience is excellent,” says Steve Tate, Chairman of Cristal International Standards. “It’s not just the design that needs considering. With guests in close proximity on the seas, the hotel faces the same challenges that cruise ships usually experience, including high risks of mobile viruses, such as the norovirus, which are quickly transferred. Cristal International Standards will ensure that hygiene levels are high and exceed the usual cleanliness at onshore hotels.”
