North East hotels mean business

Two Newcastle hotels, which have proved a big hit with leisure guests and diners, are now planning to mix business with pleasure.
The Grey Street Hotel at Newcastle city centre and The New Northumbria Hotel, Osborne Road, Jesmond, have both unveiled a raft of facilities designed to appeal to corporate clients in search of a meeting or event venue.

The hotels, owned by the Newcastle-based Malhotra Group, are undergoing a phased refurbishment and now offer a selection of fully fitted function and conference rooms with full audio visual connectivity and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Corporate packages are also available at each hotel for clients wishing to host team building activities, interviews, networking events and social events, while each site also offers access to local gyms and discounted spa treatments at nearby venues.

Both hotels are also served by restaurants, which are popular in their own right: the Living Room, at the Grey Street Hotel and the recently re-launched Scalini’s Italian restaurant at The New Northumbria Hotel.

Over the coming months the rolling refurbishment programme will result in the further remodelling of bedrooms at both venues and the creation of additional bedrooms at the New Northumbria Hotel.

“Although our focus has primarily been on providing the highest standards of food and drink to our leisure customers, the ongoing refurbishment of the two hotels means we are now in a superb position to attract corporate clients,” said Atul Malhotra, director of The Malhotra Group.

“Each one is stylish and very conveniently located for business guests: however, their overriding feature is that each offers everything from superb food, to superior accommodation and state-of-the-art conference facilities under one roof.

“In addition, they are family owned and our guests always comment on the warmth of welcome and the personal attention they receive – which is why so many return to us.”

Day delegate rates at each hotel start from £25 per person and include room hire, a two-course lunch or buffet, two servings of tea and coffee, mineral water and the hire of equipment, such as LCD projectors, the PA system and flipcharts.

The Malhotra Group also owns a number of additional venues in the region, including Scalini’s and The Three Mile Inn, Gosforth; The Sandpiper, Cullercoats; The Market Lane, Newcastle and The Runhead, at Ryton.
