Classic facilities near Stansted

Legacy Hallingbury Manor facade

Roger St. Pierre stays at Legacy Hallingbury Manor

Business travellers taking morning flights face two stark choices – getting up at some ungodly hour with the possibility of nail-biting delays on the way to the airport or arriving the previous day to spend a boring evening at some cheerless airport hotel.
At Stansted, though, stately Legacy Hallingbury Manor offers a third and far more appealing option. A classic country house hotel, set in pleasant grounds and with a raft of amenities, it’s just a 10 minutes drive from the airport check-in. Fronting onto a quiet country lane and overlooking a pretty lake, the hotel has an attractive Edwardian-era mock-Tudor frontage and has recently been completely refurbished.

Character and comfort in beautiful Berkshire

Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa, Ascot

Michelle Chenery reports on a stay at Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa, Ascot

What would event organisers want from a good hotel in close proximity to Ascot in Berkshire?
Certainly style, character, comfort, landscaped gardens, quality cuisine and pampering for delegates. Plus, of course, a choice of meeting facilities with the latest technology.
I found all that at the Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa, the closest 4-star property to Ascot and one that is easy to access from Heathrow Airport and is only an hour’s drive out of Central London. There is secured parking for up to 250 cars.

Enjoy the essence of The Cotswolds

Foxhill Manor exterior

Sydney Paulden is a guest at Foxhill Manor, now an exclusive venue

I was dreaming that I was asleep in a four-poster bed in a huge bedroom in a beautiful manor house in the Cotswolds - and that I was lucky enough to have a house butler and chef.
Then I woke up – to find it wasn’t a dream. I was in Foxhill Manor!
Foxhill Manor was built in the Arts & Crafts architectural style in 1907. It was a stately home on hills overlooking the village of Broadway. It has just been totally refurbished and is now available as a country retreat for exclusive use.

A $180m renovation has re-invigorated this property and its MICE facilities, giving a fresh new contemporary feel to the property. Located between Central Park and Times Square on 7th Avenue in the Midtown business and entertainment district, you can go from a meeting straight to a famous uptown restaurant in a matter of minutes.

Beautifully located venue fit for a queen

Luton Hoo aerial shot

Roger St. Pierre reports from Luton Hoo Hotel Golf & Spa

If you are guided by the motto ‘Location, location, location’, then Luton Hoo Hotel Golf & Spa may fit the bill. It is a stately pile set less than a mile off the M1 motorway, five-minutes from half-hourly trains from London St. Pancras – the Eurostar terminal – and 10 minutes drive from London Luton airport.
This remarkable venue also has other elements in its favour, not least the fact that the opulence of the main mansion can make Buckingham Palace seem like a council house in comparison.
