In the middle of all the Turkish delights that Istanbul has to offer

Michelle Chenery stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Istanbul - Old Town

One of the most fascinating of places to visit is the Old Town of Istanbul. No matter how long a group has available in Turkey for an incentive or a leisure programme, it can all be very enjoyably spent there and everyone will carry back their own special memories.
It is therefore pleasing to find a modestly priced good quality hotel called DoubleTree by Hilton Istanbul-Old Town. Only 15km from the Atatürk International Airport and conveniently served by a taxi rank and a tram stop, the property is also just a stone’s throw at most from many of the must-see attractions of the Turkish capital.

Within walking distance is the Grand Bazaar. This has been a thriving covered market since 1455. Crowds become more and more dense as you approach it, as everyone can find something there that they want. After all, it offers 3,000 shopping outlets in its own 61 streets. Another fascinating Aladdin’s Cave experience is also nearby. The Spice Market is a feast for all the senses. Not only crowds but aromas greet you on your way there.

A leisure programme for a group based at the DoubleTree can easily include visits to the Topkapi Palace, Haghia Sophia Museum, the Basilica Cistern and the Blue Mosque in a short space of time.

As a popular starting-point for touring the Old City, the hotel has a concierge service experienced in providing detailed advice on where to eat and places to see and can provide guests with Museum pass cards.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Istanbul-Old Town has 171 rooms and four event spaces.

The largest can host up to 120 for a banquet and 200 for a reception. All rooms are equipped with the latest in av equipment and communications technology. The Terrace Restaurant and Bar can also be booked for exclusive use.

Guestroom amenities include a large desk with high speed internet access, a 32-inch LCD TV with 40 satellite channels, an easy chair, an office chair, safe, mini-bar, alarm clock with MP3 connection and a Sweet Dreams Sleep bed. Some of the suites have the option of an outdoor terrace.

The Old Town Restaurant at lobby level serves a generous buffet breakfast. In the Terrace Restaurant on the top floor of the hotel, groups can enjoy views of the Old Town whilst dining on international cuisine alongside traditional Turkish favourites.

There is a 24-hr fitness centre, with a range of cardio-equipment and free weights. On the same floor is the spa, where, of course, delegates can enjoy an authentic Turkish Hammam or just relax in the whirlpool.

The hotel’s style is set as soon as a guest arrives, as the traditional DoubleTree greeting includes a large warm chocolate chip cookie. I forced myself to keep off it until I reached my room, where I ate it at the same time as Baklava and pieces of fruit in custard, all washed down by local wine.

Delegates and incentive award winners will thank you for choosing this property as the venue for your event.
