Swissôtel Grand Hotel offers a great Shanghai location

Swissôtel Grand Hotel, Shanghai

It has a wide range of function rooms

Overlooking the famous Shanghai thoroughfare West Nanjing Road and its upmarket shopping, the wavy outline of the roof of the Swissôtel Grand Hotel is unmistakeable. Even the local taxi drivers recognise it.
Once you have found your feet in Shanghai, this location is a good base, close to Metro lines and the City Plaza and the Yu Yuan Gardens. The hotel has its own secure parking facilities.

‘Almost next door’, it was pointed out by our host, Mr Tate Husband, the DoSM, ‘is the 13thC Jing’an Buddhist Temple, another fascinating visitor attraction’. ‘Mr’ has been inserted here, because before meeting him, the first name ‘Tate’ was unfamiliar to us and we didn’t know whether to expect a male or a female. Tate has English antecedents, so he is a mine of information on Shanghai and China for visiting Brits.

The hotel is a modern 5-star property with 467 rooms. It is well worth choosing an Executive Room or Suite, for the hotel’s Executive Club Lounge is very spacious and offers a range of added benefits, including an integral room for small private meetings.

The hotel has not only the 575sqm Grand Ballroom, seating up to 500 delegates theatre style, but also a 390sqm Junior Ballroom plus a further six dedicated function rooms. As the smaller ballroom can divide into three, the hotel can offer a wide range of configurations to suit different events.

The aim of the total design is to be modern, colourful and elegant – but very functional, making use of the most up-to-date technology for conferences and also in the guestrooms. The Swissôtel Grand Hotel offers a choice of four distinct cuisines, reflecting its Chinese location and its Swiss parentage. The Yuan Yuan restaurant provides the best in Cantonese dishes; Café Swiss is European and international in style; whilst Moon’s Steakhouse specialises in beef that is the equal of anything in the USA.

And that’s not all. There is a Swiss Gourmet patisserie overflowing with cakes and pastries. The indoor heated pool with Jacuzzi and the health club and spa are there for quiet relaxation or strenuous workouts.
