Success for The Bristol at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards

The Bristol team at South West Tourism Excellence Awards
The Bristol had two reasons to celebrate at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards held in the brand new Lansdown Suite of Ashton Gate Stadium last week. The Bristol fought off stiff competition to take gold in the Venue & Business Tourism Award and silver in the Hotel of the Year award.

The Bristol beat Event Exeter at Exeter University and Pentillie Castle & Estate to be named the Venue & Business Tourism Award winner, just losing out to Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa and The Manor House Hotel & Golf Club, Castle Combe in the Hotel of the Year category.

The hotel is particularly proud of its extensive meeting facilities, which include a dedicated conference centre with nine rooms offering great flexibility and the possibility of hosting up to 400 delegates in the Ballroom. The Bristol will now go on to compete in the national VisitEngland Awards – finalists will be announced in March. Almost 500 people attended the gala event, at which 135 different awards were presented following a rigorous judging process in which a record 605 entries were considered. According to the organisers, entries were 23% up on the previous year, helped by a new county scheme encouraging more entries from Somerset, Bristol and Bath.

Winners were spread across the whole region from the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall in the west to Bournemouth, Dorset and Salisbury in the east, and from Kingsbridge in the south to Bristol, Bath and Gloucester in the north.

All entrants underwent a rigorous short-listing process with 380 being visited by a team of 36 mystery shoppers. Entry was free and all entrants received feedback on how they had done, giving them useful tips for future success.

Travel journalist, Chair of Family Holiday Association and this year’s Chair of Judges Alison Rice commented: “Yet again the South West leads the way in tourism excellence. Whatever 2017 throws at this very special region of Britain, tonight’s award winners will excel at what they do best - offering all comers the best possible visitor experiences.”

The Bristol’s General Manager Mark Payne said, “I am thrilled to accept these awards on behalf of the entire team at The Bristol. The judges were very thorough in their appraisal of every submission, examining marketing tools, external review sites and the hotel itself through unannounced visits, so I can safely say that every member of the team, from the sales and marketing team through to the front of house and kitchen brigade, has contributed to tonight’s success and I would like to thank them for it”.
