Other awards at WTM Africa included ‘Best Stand Personnel’, ‘Most Innovative Stand’, ‘Best Stand for doing Business’ and ‘Most Responsible Stand’.
MMPRC, together with 5 companies from the tourism industry, represented the Maldives at WTM Africa, held in Cape Town, South Africa from 6 – 8 April.
The Maldives stand showcased Maldivian culture and beauty. This year the Maldives was participating in WTM Africa for the first time and it marked a great opportunity to promote the country as a tourist destination whilst creating new business ties in the South African market. The Visit Maldives Campaign 2016, the biggest promotional campaign of the year, was also widely promoted throughout the fair with additional billboard advertising.
Raffle prizes were sponsored by Adaaran Resorts Maldives and Beach Wood Hotel, Maafushi Island and received more than 200 entries at the event.
In 2015, the number of tourists to the Maldives from South Africa increased by 39.9% with a total of 4,170 visitors, contributing to 0.3% of the market share. With the right promotion, the market shows great potential for further growth.
