It is the fourth occasion that the outstanding destination has secured an award at the annual ceremony, regarded by many as the ‘Oscars' of the travel industry.
In 2002 it was heralded as Europe's leading golf resort; in 2009 it was awarded the title of Scotland's leading golf resort; and, a year later, it was acclaimed as Scotland's leading golf resort and spa.
What's more, the stunning resort, which sits in a majestic cliff-top location overlooking the North Sea and the historic ‘Auld Grey Toon', has been nominated as Scotland's best golf hotel in the ‘sister' honours, the World Golf Awards, while its two championship courses - the Kittocks and the Torrance - are both in the running for Scotland's best golf course.
Jane McGee, director, sales and marketing at Fairmont St Andrews, believes the continued success of the resort is down to the investments made by the owners and the dedication and pride of the staff. She said: "Naturally we're delighted to be acclaimed as Scotland's leading resort and we're hopeful we might make it a hat-trick of awards in the forthcoming World Golf Awards.
"Receiving these nominations is testament to the pride and effort put in by everybody here at the resort and also the owners' commitment to the venue which has been unwavering throughout.
"We'd like to thank both the judges and our nominators, as to be included in these categories in the country where golf originated and where there is such a fantastic variety of courses and hotels is a tremendous fillip for us."
As well as two exceptional championship golf courses and a world-class spa, Fairmont St Andrews includes award-winning dining, luxurious guest accommodation and exceptional service, as well as unfettered access to the charms of the old town of St Andrews itself, the unique Home of Golf.
