BEC, which acts as a ‘one stop shop’ for Meeting, Incentive Travel, Convention and Events planners and bookers looking to hold events in Canada, fought off strong opposition from rivals such as The Hague Convention Bureau and Rotterdam Partners to win Gold in the Best Overseas Convention Bureau category. The award was collected by Emma Cashmore, managing director of Axis Travel Marketing which represents the organisation in the UK and Europe.
“Having won Bronze in the same category at last year’s awards we are thrilled to have won Gold this time around,” said Cashmore. “It really is a fantastic achievement. Not only is it recognition for the quality of the organisation, and the amazing facilities and service offered by its destination partners, it is validation for all the hard work the team at Axis Travel Marketing has done to establish the BEC brand in Europe.”
Cashmore added: “Axis Travel Marketing’s relationship with BEC is an incredibly special one as we launched them in the European marketplace in 2009 and have worked with them ever since. In that time we have watched them grow into a major force in the region’s incredibly competitive MICE space. To have won this award is yet further proof of how far we have come and how Axis has cemented Canada’s reputation as a MICE powerhouse in the region.”
Since it began working with Business Events Canada in August 2009, Axis Travel Marketing has made a potential contribution of CAD $155.8 million to the Canadian economy by growing the country’s international conference and incentive groups business out of the UK and Europe through activities such as organising FAM trips, branded events and client roadshows. At the same time Axis has transformed consumer and media perceptions of the destination as a unique, trendy and upbeat events location and highlighted the core capabilities of the BEC’s various destination partners, such as their ability to host large international conferences.
