The World Travel Leaders Award gives WTM’s official media partners, which represent key travel industry media globally, the opportunity to congratulate businesses and people who have made ground-breaking contributions to travel and tourism.
The award in technology was presented to David in recognition of the way in which the company has developed the technology to ensure its agents can build thriving travel businesses from home and enabled it to expand globally, now supporting over 1,300 Travel Counsellor agents across eight countries.
These innovations include the development of its own in-house dynamic packing system Phenix, which allows agents to tailor-make travel for their customers whilst controlling the margin they make, significantly increasing their earning potential as well as saving them time and improving the service they provide to their customers. It has also helped to protect them and their businesses in an ever competitive market. Agents are also given the communication technology to stay connected to support staff and fellow agents around the world, reflecting the company’s strong ethos of support and building relationships with staff, agents and their customers.
David Speakman comments; “It’s an honour to receive the award and a great way to mark our 20th anniversary as a company, coincidentally as WTM celebrates 35 years itself. We have built a company based on providing the very best people with the best technology, tools and support so that they can focus on delivering a highly unique service to their customers, all whilst enjoying the freedom and flexibility that comes with running their own businesses from home. We are all very passionate about what we do, and part of that is constantly developing and enhancing the technology we offer to our agents, so it’s great to be recognised in this way.”
Further to the award David also hosted a special seminar session at the event, sharing his views and insights into how travel agents can survive and prosper in an online age. Within the talk he discussed the changes in technology since he founded Travel Counsellors 20 years ago, including the rise of the digital age and the threat of OTAs to traditional travel agencies, and how it is essential that agents adapt to these changes and provide a personal service that the internet can’t replicate.
