JCI World Congress Québec City 2016

Marc Poirier, the Convention Centre’s Director of Building Management and Event Support,

Convention centre's sustainability expertise in the spotlight

The Québec City Convention Centre had its chance to shine on October 31 when a Convention Centre sustainability expert shared their knowledge during JCI Québec City 2016. The event is the largest business conference ever held at the Convention Centre, with some 3,000 attendees under-40 from around the world.

Marc Poirier, the Convention Centre’s Director of Building Management and Event Support, was one of four panelists invited by the Junior Chamber International, during the “Making Global Goals Local Business” panel discussion, an exploration of how businesses can participate in advancing the Global Goals for Sustainable Development and the opportunities they have to create a better world.

Mr. Poirier retraced the steps taken by the Québec City Convention Centre to become a model and leader in sustainability within the meetings and conventions industry. He explained how and why the Convention Centre ramped up its efforts with new resources and initiatives designed to provide clients with a sustainable venue option. For instance, the Convention Centre was the first in Canada to roll out a responsible event management program offering event organizers the support and tools needed to host eco-friendly events.

Mr. Poirier’s co-panelists included Anjali Singh-Code of Nothing but Nets, 2016 JCI vice-president Ryad Subratty from Akwire Procurement Services, and Bertolt Daems, owner of RnR Group.

JCI Québec 2016, organized by the Junior Chamber International, is an outstanding opportunity to showcase Québec’s capital and its vibrant business community.
