Harrogate welcomes world’s top doctors as major medical event returns to UK

Harrogate International Centre
Harrogate International Centre will host a major medical conference this summer as the event returns to the UK for the first time in 20 years.
Hundreds of delegates from across the globe are expected for the 27th congress of the European Society of Paediatric Urology (ESPU) on June 22.

The four-day event heads to the International Centre after ESPU regional organiser, and Leeds-based consultant, Ramnath Subramaniam bid for the event to “show off the North of England” to the rest of the world.

He said: “Everybody knows London and they think England is London.  The last time the event was in the UK it was held in London so I thought I would bid for it coming to the UK and to the North.

“We have people coming from 26 countries, mainly from around Europe but also from China, India and North and South America.

“Harrogate is great because it’s centrally located. I think people should spend a few days in the area and do some driving and enjoy the scenery.”

Delegates at the congress will also be addressed by Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, who is to provide an insight into the workings of the official tourism body for the UK’s biggest county.

ESPU 2016 is one of a number of medical association events coming to HIC in 2016.  The International Centre will also welcome delegates from The British Pain Society, The College of Occupational Therapists and the British Blood Transfusion Society, in the coming months.
